Friday Favorite: Ruby Red

Friday Favorites is a weekly post where I share favorite books or series of mine that I’ve previously read. Hopefully they’ll become favorites of yours too!

Full of mystery, century old-secrets and time travel, Ruby Red was an enjoyable read from start to finish. I love time travel books because it allows you to see the characters experience different time periods and the consequences that come from travelling through time and changing the past. Kerstin Gier’s novel has all of this. Gwyneth is a young teenager who was never supposed to have the talent that many of her family members had for travelling through time. However, she soon finds herself caught up in the “family business.”

Gier’s story takes place in London, which I thought was the perfect setting for a time-travel novel. The supporting characters-both in the past and present added humour, intrigue and drama that kept me wanting to find out just what role everyone plays in the mystery that Gwyneth must figure out.

If you are a fan of time-travelling novels I definitely recommend you check this series out. Here is a synopsis for Ruby Red, which is the first book in the trilogy.

Gwyneth Shepherd’s sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for traveling through time. But unexpectedly, it is Gwyneth who in the middle of class takes a sudden spin to a different era!

Gwyneth must now unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon-the time traveler from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, and whose presence becomes, in time, less insufferable and more essential. Together, Gwyneth and Gideon journey through time to discover who, in the 18th century and in contemporary London, they can trust.
