Friday Favorites is a weekly post where I share favorite books or series of mine that I’ve previously read. Hopefully they’ll become favorites of yours too!
I’m sorry this is coming a little late; school has started up again and the first week is always a bit hectic!
My Friday Favorite for this weekend is the Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins. Hex Hall is a fun supernatural series that finds Sophie Mercer, a teenage witch who enrolls at Hecate Hall (Hex Hall for short!) a school for supernaturals. Along with her new friends, Sophie discovers that there is more to Hecate Hall under its unfortunate rosy pink facade.
I love this series because it’s a great combination of a supernatural read with plenty of comedy. Of course, there’s some sad and dark stuff (I won’t mention any specifics, but a few tears were shed in the last book!) but all in all I found this series to be quite an entertaining read! This is mostly due to the amazingly witty character that is Sophie Mercer, who always manages to find a silver lining to the various situations she finds herself in. The supporting characters are also a hoot, especially Sophie’s roommate, Jenna, and her two love interests, Archer and Cal (SWOON).
Don’t miss out on this spectacular supernatural series! Here’s a synopsis for the first book, Hex Hall, from the Chapters/Indigo website:
Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It’s gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie’s estranged father-an elusive European warlock-only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it’s her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.
By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.
As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.
